Photographers Photographing Their Own Families

Candela Books + Gallery is currently seeking photographs made by photographers photographing their own families for our next book project.

We are looking for images that evoke intimacy, love, frustration, humor, absurdity, the ordinary as well as the extraordinary…

Photographs of your family life.

Photographs of your children, your siblings, your parents.

Photographs of your lovers.

Even if this type of photographic work is not what you are known for, we want to see your family images if the photos are emotionally charged, if there is hilarity, if there is love, aging, sex, ritual, celebration, coming of age, sisters, brothers, grandparents, if there are tears or anxiety or loss.

Generation by generation, it seems we are all made of the same stuff. Mothers from everywhere recognize what it means to hold their children for the first time. Grown children everywhere recognize what it means to see your parents slowing down. Many of us are parents and children and lovers simultaneously. Our bodies are changing, mortality swirls around us, our children are the echoes of our loved ones.  Really, we have but a short time to kick up a little dust before it eventually settles back over us.  Let us have a look at you and your people.

DEADLINE IS OPEN, BUT WE ARE EDITING NOW.

We know photographers love to procrastinate with deadlines BUT the sooner you get your work to us, the better.   We expect to include the work of as many as 40 photographers, with some photographers having a small selection of works.  So, the deadline is open for the moment but we will be into the final editing sometime around Summer of 2016.

Copies of the book will be given to those who are included in this project and there will be an exhibition to celebrate the finished book, when a selection of images from the book will be exhibited at Candela Books + Gallery, located in a recently renovated building in the Downtown Arts District of Richmond, Virginia.

Many thanks!
